Membership Drive
Have you ever...
....been
in a situation where someone was hurt and you wanted to step
in and help?
...seen an accident and
wanted to assist the people involved?
...tried to make new
friends that share your interests?
...wanted
to get more involved in the community you were living in?
If you
said YES to any of the above, you should consider joining the
Blackwood Fire Company.
There are many benefits of membership including,
training/education, lifelong friendship and community
involvement - just to name a few!
There are a number of different roles a person can play
within the company and each job helps us create a safe
community for our families.
Some jobs include:
FIREFIGHTER: Must be 18 years
or older and in good health. Firefighters answer the call for
help, putting out fires and performing rescues. Carrying
hoses, climbing ladders and operating equipment are some of
the jobs you will do. Training is a very important aspect of
fire fighting. Weekly training sessions are held at the
firehouse and all new members are required to attend basic
firefighter training.
EXPLORERS/JUNIORS: Must be 14 to 17
years of age and must maintain "C’s"
or better in ALL school subjects. Junior members are
firefighters in training. Learning is the primary
responsibility of junior firefighters. Junior members provide
support during emergencies such as accountability and bringing
equipment where it is needed. Supervision is provided at all
times. Child labor laws limit the types of tasks a junior can
perform, but with training and age, the number of jobs a
junior can do increases. Available positions are limited.
ASSOCIATE/AUXILIARY
MEMBER: Not everyone has to run into
a burning building to be helpful. In fact, a large amount of
the work required in the fire service is to ensure that we are
ready to respond when the call comes in. We welcome your
skills and talents to help us behind the scenes. Some examples
of these behind the scene services include: station
maintenance, fund drives, writing news stories, and giving tours. Web page designers, grant writers
and photographers are just a few jobs needed. If you
have a talent not listed above, we could still use your help.
As
mentioned above, all firefighters are required to complete
basic fire training upon becoming active members. All
training, uniforms, and on-duty insurance coverage is provided
at no cost. In-house training courses and drills are held
regularly, as well as at the County, State, and Federal level
in all areas of fire, rescue, and EMS. The possibilities are
limited only by your desire to learn. But the experiences and
rewards of being a Blackwood firefighter will last your
entire life. So why not join our emergency services family
today. Call (856) 227-7037 for more information, stop by
either of our firehouses, or submit an
on-line application.
